⛓️💥 SENTIENCE269
Values and Mission
This page exists to make the values of our community clear. Please read it before joining so you can decide whether you genuinely align with them. This helps us build a community around shared principles and avoid unnecessary conflicts. These values come from more than five years of animal rights activism by our founder, Stefano Rinaldo, who has been mainly involved with Anonymous for the Voiceless, one of the world’s most established and impactful organisations focused on vegan outreach, with a decade of experience. His experience includes 300+ vegan outreach actions, being responsible for Anonymous for the Voiceless Italy, thousands of conversations with vegans and non-vegans, and many discussions with experienced animal rights activists. We are always open to feedback, questions and respectful conversations, and we are happy to explain the reasoning behind our positions. At the same time, these principles are what our community is built around.Repeatedly challenging or debating these core values within the community may result in removal. If you would like to discuss any of the points outlined here, feel free to contact us on Instagram: @sentience.269
Where Vegans Meet&Party
Sentience269 is a global vegan community and electronic music project. We create spaces where vegans can connect, celebrate, dance and build relationships without having to explain or argue why other animals should not be exploited.
ANIMALS FIRST
The foundation of our community is based on the original definition of veganism:“The ethical principle that humans should live without exploiting other animals.”To us, this means rejecting the idea that other animals are products, resources or commodities for human use.We recognise them as individuals who want and should live free from human exploitation and supremacy.Everyone involved in Sentience269 — our guests, artists, hosts, organisers and partners — should be aligned with this.
VEGANISM IS NOT INTERSECTIONAL
We believe veganism has one specific focus: ending human supremacy over other animals.Health, the environment, human rights, political ideologies and other social issues can all be important subjects. But they are separate conversations from veganism. We believe that conflating veganism with other causes weakens the message by moving the focus away from the victims of animal exploitation and towards other human-centred issues.
WHO IS WELCOME?
Veganism is not a diet, a lifestyle preference or a personal choice. It is a matter of justice for other animals. We believe everyone should be vegan. At Sentience269, being vegan is the prerequisite for being part of our community and attending our events.
Non-vegans are not welcome at our events or in our communities. This includes people who identify as vegetarian, “almost vegan”, “vegan-curious”, “vegan allies”, reducetarians, or people who simply avoid certain animal products.None of these positions are veganism.
🐱 VEGANISM APPLIES TO COMPANION ANIMALS TOO
If we believe that other animals should not be exploited, this must also be reflected in the choices we make for the animals who depend on us.Plant-based food and other solutions for companion animals are widely available. Vegans have a responsibility to educate themselves and consider the interests of all animals affected by their choices.
🫂 A SPACE BUILT ON RESPECT
Being vegan is our shared foundation, but it does not give anyone permission to discriminate against other people. Everyone should be able to enter our spaces feeling safe, respected and welcome.Sentience269 has zero tolerance for racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, hate speech, sexual and/or verbal harassment, discrimination of any kind, or violations of consent and personal boundaries.
🕊️ APOLITICAL
Sentience269 does not endorse political parties, political ideologies or movements unrelated to animal exploitation.
OUR MISSION
Most vegan social spaces still treat veganism primarily as a dietary preference or personal lifestyle choice.Sentience269 wants to create something fundamentally different.
A glimpse of a vegan world.A space where everyone around you has already accepted the basic moral principle that other animals should not be exploited. You can simply relax, connect, dance and exist among people who share your moral baseline. We facilitate this with speed-meeting rounds at our events, giving you the opportunity to meet new people.
🔗 THE STRENGTH TO SPEAK UP
Other animals cannot advocate for themselves in a human society. They depend on us to do it for them.We want to create a strong vegan social environment where people feel supported, connected and confident enough to stand up for them more and more.We will help you become a more effective voice for animals with a short 20-minute masterclass at the beginning of our events.
🔊 AND THEN THERE IS THE MUSIC
Rave culture has always had the ambition to create spaces of freedom, connection, self-expression and inclusivity. We love that. But we see a contradiction when a culture built around freedom and liberation continues to normalise the exploitation of other sentient beings.
We want to push that culture one step further.Sentience269 aims to become a world-class electronic music experience — exclusively for vegans, those who TRULY stand for JUSTICE.Our music direction is primarily under the umbrella of techno, with hard techno often being the main character of our closing sets. But you will also find house, tech house and minimal. And to sweeten the whole experience, we want to open the space to other vegan artists. We are planning to have tattoo artists and performers as part of our events.
